Washington state's Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a former Microsoft employee who accused the company of laying her off in retaliation for taking prior legal action in a gender-discrimination complaint.

NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS​
U.S. DISTRICT COURT, WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON

Prevailed at trial and obtained full relief (including punitive damages) for a judgment of over $1,000,000 after appeal. Client was a long-term employee who experienced retaliation after raising discrimination concerns. Company was defended by a premier national law firm.  

Successfully defended against the Company’s appeal to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.


Brown v. AutoNation, Inc.

KING COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

Prevailed at trial and obtained $355,000 judgment against a Bellevue car dealership for failure to make a reasonable accommodation of an employee. Company was defended by a large Seattle law firm.


Miles v. City of Seattle

PUBLIC SAFETY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

Successfully reversed the termination of a Seattle Police Officer. Full back pay ordered.


Bange v. Puget Sound Electrical Workers Trust Fund and Pension Trust Fund of Local 46, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO

AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION

Obtained complete relief for individual denied early retirement benefits by union. The Union's Pension Trust violated ERISA and the arbitrator awarded full benefits plus all attorneys' fees and costs.


Coghlan v. American Seafoods

NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS

Successfully represented American Seafoods in U.S. District Court and on appeal. In a published decision, the Ninth Circuit affirmed summary judgment in favor of American Seafoods on claims of national origin discrimination under Title VII and Washington law.


Corbin v. Anvil International

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT, WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON

Successfully obtained complete summary judgment for Company. Judge Coughenour ordered dismissal of all claims, including claims brought under the FMLA, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Washington law.

Shaw v. Energy Northwest

Obtained verdict for client after a 6-day jury trial. Plaintiff was a long-term African-American employee who claimed race discrimination and retaliation. The jury rendered a complete defense verdict.
